My best friend is a member of the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Advocacy Board here in Edmonton. This board works with the Patient Navigator through Alberta Health Services (AHS) to raise awareness for young adults (ages 15-29) who have cancer. The group needed a logo to use for branding within AHS to help bring attention to young adults with cancer as they often face unique challenges due to being in the dividing line of pediatric and adult care.
Originally the group was going with the name CAYAAC, however, another group within AHS had used this name already and they had to pivot. Below are some concept iterations we went through with the suggestion of using a kayak as the inspiration for this logo.
After landing on a new name, Parachute, we brainstormed what we could try out. This process seen a few different ways to incorporate a Parachute into the text of Parachute.
From here we settled on one particular style and began the iteration process of figuring out how exactly it should look.
Finally, we landed on the final version of the logo.
Logo design was something new for me to attempt and it was quite fun. Seeing the iterations and changes we did, as well as getting thrown into a name change, presented some unique challenges. But I believe it ended up fairly nice.
Overall it was fun little side project that didn't take too much time, and it went to help a good cause.
